For Guys, Concealer Might Should Be Considered A Last Resort

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with guys using concealer under their eyes or on facial blemishes if it looks good — and hides something that doesn’t look so good. There’s nothing wrong with wearing makeup on your whole face if you like.

But for guys who don’t want to look like they’re wearing makeup, it makes sense to consider using concealer only as a last resort. Some concealers for guys look pretty good and quite natural, but still may be other ways to get good results without having to use any kind of blemish cover.

It’s also more economical to solve the problem than to treat it with concealer every day.

If it’s dark circles that worry you, consider the root cause. Sometimes, the skin is simply very thin under the eyes, and there’s nothing you can do about that. But if the cause is congestion, you can take Claritin or a similar antihistamine to clear that up. If it’s staying up too late or getting drunk, you can take action to prevent that from happening too.

For blemishes, the best course of action is to use a topical medicine that will prevent them from happening and lessen the length of time you have to deal with any spots. Something like Clearasil should do the trick.

If a scar is your concern, there are special preparations available that can lessen the look of scars over time. These are mostly just skin conditioners that help loosen up the hardened skin and help it return to something closer to the normal color. You can get these at any drugstore. Just ask for “scar cream” or a “scar therapy” product.

If you decide to use a concealer, use one made especially for guys. The ones women use are often too visible. Then, ask a trusted friend if they can see it and how it looks. Having a second opinion is crucial to using a men’s concealer in a way that works for you.

There’s no reason to feel bad about some discoloration or blemishes on your face, but there’s also no reason to live with something you can eliminate or cover up.
