High Power Reading Glasses: Yes, They Really Exist

When I first started needing reading glasses for computer use, I only needed ones that had very low magnification. And they were very hard to find because they aren’t available at drugstores, discount stores and grocery stores like some reading glasses.

As I explored how to find reading glasses for me, I found that people who need high power reading glasses have the same problem. You can find or have made very high power reading glasses, but you have to know where to look.

The two sources I’ve found are:

1. Amazon. A limited selection of high power readers is available from Amazon, and the selection varies. Sometimes, you may be able to find exactly what you want there — and sometimes you can’t.

2. Zenni Optical. The same company that supplies my readers, Zenni can custom-make any kind of reading glasses or prescription glasses that you want. But you don’t need a prescription to order from the company. Just fill in the details explaining what you want, and you can get many choices of single-vision glasses for less than $20 complete with shipping. Glasses start at just $6.95.

People use high power reading glasses for a variety of reasons. The two most common groups of users are those with poor vision who need extreme magnification to be able to read or do close up work and those who do some kind of special work that requires a close view. Some kinds of artists or jewelers use high power glasses for specialty work.

As with most products, reading glasses are easy to find in stores unless you want something special. If you require glasses with very high or very low magnification, you won’t find what you need locally, but you can certainly order online or have what you want custom made for a low cost.

It’s a little more of a hassle when you need something special, but there’s no reason to give up. There’s always a way to get what you want if you look around a bit.
